Eternal Focus

Romans 8 is a practical chapter in scripture that gives us cause to not worry and shows us where our focus should be. We will focus on three verses that highlight these themes. While the whole chapter carries these themes, we will keep it condensed so as to peak your interest in reading the whole chapter!!

1. Rom. 8:24-25     For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

The hope here is the hope found in adoption as sons and redemption of our bodies. This is the eternal focus which I mean. When we focus on the eternal and the joy found in it, the problems, cares, stress, anxiety, pain, etc. of this world are left behind. In times of darkness and in times of great joy, keep your focus on the eternal glory of the redemption of our bodies and our union with Christ.

2. Romans 8:26    Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

I always am concerned that I am not praying how I should or that I would leave stuff out. I am a sinner, imperfect and fallen. My prayers are so messed up and selfish in light of a holy and righteous God. Many take this text into many doctrinal issues, dragging it through the mud. I believe in context of the chapter that Paul was giving us reason not to worry. Don’t worry about your prayers cause we have an interceder working on our behalf.

3. Rom. 8:31    What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

The final part of the chapter Paul dedicates to explaining that nothing in the whole of creation can separate us from the love of God and our salvation. His grace and sovereignty is enough for us. We need not worry, He takes care of the birds of the air! Rest in this promise! If you feel a sinking feeling in your stomach right now it is probably because you are an enemy of God and He is not on your side. Seek Christ and give your life to Him. It is that easy. A heart change by God, His salvation, His grace are all you need for God to be on your side.

This chapter is full of practical advice and glorious promises. Read it, soak it up, live it, love it.
